This is a personal project that I made in 2022, I illustrated a famous short story in Vietnam “Vo Chong A Phu” by To Hoai.
Every life milestone will teach an individual a lesson, which helps them to form a completed mindset. Since then, they are able to have their own opinions on each issue and defend and protect their own perspectives. Similar to A Phu and Mi, the hurt of the past does not preclude them from acting differently; they can do so as long as they believe in and work toward better times.
The story is the perfect metaphor for the intense desire to live and to be free in every one of us. Therefore, this series is my interpretation of not being imprisoned or enslaved.
In this series, the symbol of the pink line appears within every work, combining to the zic zac rope - a strength in H’mong culture. The pink rope symbol connects all the artworks and forms the last.
